What does Registered Businesses Search include?  top

Search for Registered Businesses searches the registered business database for any entity in New Jersey that matches the search criteria. Any business found that matches the search criteria will be returned regardless of status or availability of the name for a new business registration. There are 3 different criteria available to search for registered business:

  1. Business Name

This is a case-insensitive exact name search with a wild card automatically inserted at the end of search string. Enter as much of the name as you are sure of. You may want to leave ending designators like “Inc.”, “LLC”, etc. out of your search string unless you are sure of the exact format used. For example, “ABC Carpet Cleaning” will return both “ABC Carpet Cleaning & Installation L.L.C” and “ABC Carpet Cleaning, LLC”.
  2. Keywords

This is a case-insensitive search for the keywords entered (up to 5 allowed). Enter one keyword per field. It looks for business names which contain all the keywords entered anywhere in the registered business names. Use this search if you are not sure of how the business name starts. For example, if you search for keyword “Carpet” and “Cleaning”, the results will include all business names containing carpet and cleaning anywhere in the name including “AAA Carpet Cleaning Inc.” and “AAA-NJ Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning LLC”.
  3. Entity ID

This is an exact match search for 10-digits Entity ID issued by New Jersey Department of Revenue & Enterprise Services. Partial searches or wildcard searches are not allowed.

What does Available Names Search include?  top

Search for Available Names determines if a business name is available to be used in the Business Formations service to begin the process of forming and registering a new business. This Name Search ignores all capitalization, spaces, punctuation (periods, commas, dashes, apostrophes, ampersand), leading articles (A, AN, THE), trailing ‘s’, as well as the words AND, OR, and OF when searching for similar names. A wildcard is then added at the end of your name for the search to insure all similar names are found.
